CONSEQUENCES OF PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE
LEGAL CONSEQUENCES
Abusing prescription drugs can lead to problems with the law. The federal government decides which medications require a prescription, and it's illegal for someone to give or sell you a prescription drug that was not prescribed for you. Prescription drug abuse can also lead to other behavior or incidents that could involve the police and the courts:

  • stealing prescription drugs

  • stealing to pay for prescription drugs

  • supplying or selling prescription drugs to someone else

  • violence that causes injury or property damage

  • driving under the influence of prescription drugs (this could lead to loss of license, or even more serious charges if someone is injured or killed in an accident)
